The newsgroup bellsouth.net.test is being flooded by these odd
posts titled "xx Keep yy Alive zz" from "newsmaster" containing
a one line date and time stamp .
What is going on here? Are they tracking when the machines
go belly up? or what?
Curious user wants to know.

These posts are the result of a script that runs every three minutes to
keep the posting connection open between each frontend and the posting
server.

If the script posting into bellsouth.net.test bothers everyone, I can just
create a new group to hold the posts for a couple of minutes that they
exist...

Couldn't you just use newsgroup alt.barney.dinosaur.die.die.die .

Oh Geez. Anyone that is annoyed by postings in a test newsgroup needs
to get a freaking hobby. Or maybe prozac.

You have simply missed the animated human interplay in the myriad nuanced
ways of saying, "testing, please ignore". "Usenet test groups, where old
friends meet" is what i always say......
